about

Oceanography marks the sophomore release by guitarist, composer Craig Aalders. The album represents an exploration of sounds inspired by the Pacific Ocean and the waterways that intersect the coast of British Columbia. The sounds of Oceanography are imbued with a sense of moment and space, oscillating dynamics move with emotive resonance.

Over the course of its seven tracks Oceanography navigates its way through crescendo’s of crashing waves, drifting oscillations and shimmering organic tones. Washes of rippling sound mix with glistening echo’s, creating an immersive world of evocative and meditative soundscapes. Aalders use of acoustic and electric guitars, synthesizers and field recordings are transformed into streams of layered sound through intricate chains of analogue and digital signal processing. The result is a timeless blend of west-coast inspired ambient music.
